North Milan includes the Municipi 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9 of Milan, located north of the city center outside the perimeter of the former Spanish walls. This area is mainly residential and industrial, and it mostly developed during the 19th and 20th century. The main railway station, the university campuses, and some of the city’s main business districts are located here.

✪ Monumental Cemetery of Milan

The Monumental Cemetery of Milan (Cimitero Monumentale di Milano) is a large cemetery erected during the 19th century. This cemetery is filled with countless elaborate sculptures, temples, mausoleums, memorials, and decorations, that transformed the area into an open-air museum. The entrance features the Famedio, a medieval-style building housing some of the most notable tombs of the cemetery, including that of Alessandro Manzoni. The graves of several famous people linked with the city of Milan are located here.

✪ Giuseppe Meazza Stadium

Also known as: San Siro Stadium (Stadio San Siro)

The Giuseppe Meazza Stadium (Stadio Giuseppe Meazza) is the largest stadium in Italy and one of the largest in Europe, with a maximum capacity of over 80,000 seats. Opened in 1926, it is the home ground of A.C. Milan and Inter Milan, two of the most decorated football teams in Italy. Over its long history, it has hosted numerous international football competitions, but also concerts and other events. In 2026 it will host the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics.

Piazza Gae Aulenti

Piazza Gae Aulenti is a square located just outside the Milano Porta Garibaldi railway station. The plaza is famous for its unique architecture and for being surrounded by various skyscrapers. Among these the most notable is the UniCredit Tower (Torre UniCredit), the tallest building in Italy, with a height of 231 meters. Just outside the square is the large modern park Biblioteca degli Alberi.

Bosco Verticale

Bosco Verticale (“Vertical Forest”) is a skyscraper complex made of two residential towers in Milan. Completed in 2014, the buildings are packed with thousands of trees and plants. Due to its unique concept, the complex has been praised as one of the most beautiful and innovative skyscrapers in the world.

Porta Garibaldi

Porta Garibaldi is one of the ancient city gates that formed part of the Spanish walls of Milan. Built in the 16th century, the gate was entirely reworked in Neoclassical style in the 19th century. The gate is adorned with various reliefs, statues, inscriptions, and decorations.

CityLife

CityLife is a modern residential and commercial district located in Milan, northwest of Parco Sempione. The complex includes various residential buildings, a park, and the Three Towers (Tre Torri). These are three skyscrapers called Allianz Tower (Torre Allianz), Generali Tower (Torre Generali), and Libeskind Tower (Torre Libeskind), but also known respectively as Il Dritto (“The Straight One”), Lo Storto (“The Twisted One”), and Il Curvo (“The Curved One”), due to their shapes.

Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano

Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano is a house museum in Milan hosted in an apartment built between 1929 and 1931. The museum features a collection of numerous artworks by 20th-century artists.

Garegnano Charterhouse

The Garegnano Charterhouse (Certosa di Garegnano) is a former Carthusian monastery located in the Garegnano neighborhood at the outskirts of Milan. Erected in the 14th century, it was later reworked with the addition of an elaborate Mannerist facade. The church features a rich series of frescoes painted in the 16th and 17th century, among other artworks.

HangarBicocca

HangarBicocca is an exhibition center in the Bicocca district of Milan. Housed in a redeveloped former Pirelli factory, the site features various works of contemporary art, and it periodically hosts temporary exhibitions.
