<< Umbria
The Tiber river enters Umbria from Tuscany, and forms the Umbrian Valtiberina in the north of the region, a continuation of the Tuscan Valtiberina. The river touches the town of Città di Castello before flowing toward Perugia. The mountainous area east of the Valtiberina and around the city of Gubbio is known as Eugubino. The Umbrian Valtiberina and the Eugubino are both part of the Province of Perugia and feature various historic towns among the hills.
Gubbio
Gubbio is a town located along the slopes of the hills in the northeastern part of the Province of Perugia. The city was founded in prehistoric times, and was one of the main settlements of the Umbri, before becoming a Roman town. Gubbio was a powerful comune during the Late Middle Ages, but it was later taken by the Duchy of Urbino. The town then became part of the Papal States and finally Italy. Gubbio is now known for its artistic and architectural heritage.
Palazzo dei Consoli
Palazzo dei Consoli is a 14th-century Gothic palace located in Gubbio, facing the central square known as Piazza Grande. The palace houses the Civic Museum (Museo Civico), a museum of local art and history, which includes a series of tablets written in Umbrian language between the 3rd and 1st century BCE, known as Iguvine Tablets (Tavole Eugubine). On the opposite side of the square is Palazzo Pretorio, the historic town hall of Gubbio. The southern side of Piazza Grande is open and serves as panoramic terrace.

Gubbio Cathedral
Also known as: Cathedral of Santi Mariano e Giacomo (Cattedrale dei Santi Mariano e Giacomo)
The Gubbio Cathedral (Duomo di Gubbio) is a historic Gothic church erected during the Late Middle Ages and later reworked. The facade features a large rose window, while the interior houses various Renaissance artworks and frescoes. A museum of religious art is adjacent to the church.

Ducal Palace of Gubbio
The Ducal Palace (Palazzo Ducale) of Gubbio is a Renaissance palace located in front of the Gubbio Cathedral. The palace was built in the 15th century under the rule of the House of Montefeltro, Dukes of Urbino, and now serves as a museum. A room known as Studiolo of Guidobaldo da Montefeltro, adorned with elaborate Renaissance woodwork, has been removed from the palace and is now displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Basilica of Sant’Ubaldo
The Basilica of Sant’Ubaldo is a historic religious complex located on the mountain that overlooks Gubbio. Built during the 16th century, the church features Baroque decorations and artworks, and houses the remains of Saint Ubald of Gubbio inside an elaborate glass sarcophagus. A cableway known as Funivia Colle Eletto links the city with the basilica, and is famous for consisting of a small cage with just standing room for two people.

Palazzo del Bargello
Palazzo del Bargello is a Gothic palace erected during the 14th century in Gubbio. The building historically hosted the local police headquarters, but now it houses a museum of historic crossbows. A fountain known as Fontana dei Pazzi (“Fountain of the Crazy”) is located in front of the palace. It is said that if you run around the fountain three times you will be awarded a “license of madness”.

Roman Theater of Gubbio
The ruins of the Roman Theater (Teatro Romano) of Gubbio are located just south of the old town. The theater was built during the 1st century BCE and it could host up to 6,000 spectators. Various mosaics and other archaeological finds from the theater are housed in a small archaeological museum nearby. Located close to the theater is a 1st-century Roman Mauseoleum (Mausoleo Romano) of a politician named Gaius Pomponius Graecinus.

Gualdo Tadino
Gualdo Tadino is a town located at the foot of the hills in the Province of Perugia. An Umbrian village and then a Roman town, Gualdo Tadino was destroyed and rebuilt during the Middle Ages, and now hosts various medieval attractions.
Rocca Flea
The Rocca Flea is a fortified complex erected on a hill in Gualdo Tadino during the Late Middle Ages. The castle has served as a prison in the past, but now it has been restored, and it hosts a museum of local history and ceramics.

The Gualdo Tadino Cathedral (Duomo di Gualdo Tadino) is the main church of the town, built in Gothic style during the Late Middle Ages and reworked several times. The interior of the church was adorned with rich decorations in the 20th century.

Città di Castello
Città di Castello is a town in northern Umbria, in the Province of Perugia. Founded by the Umbri, it became a Roman town and was a free comune in the Late Middle Ages. Later ruled by the Papal States, it joined Italy when the country was unified, and it is now an agricultural and industrial center.
Municipal Art Gallery of Città di Castello
The Municipal Art Gallery of Città di Castello (Pinacoteca Comunale di Città di Castello) is a rich art gallery housed in a 16th-century palace in Città di Castello. Its collection spans from the Late Middle Ages to the 20th century, and mostly features Renaissance paintings, including one by Raphael.
