Pescara
Pescara is the largest city in Abruzzo, and the main port and seaside resort of the region, being located along the Adriatic coast. Inhabited since ancient times, it was a small port and fortified position for most of its history, until it was developed as an industrial center in the late 19th century. In 1927, it became the capital of its own province and, despite being damaged during World War II, it continued its expansion, and it is now at the center of a large and modern urban area.
Pescara Promenade
The seaside promenade of Pescara runs for several kilometers along the Adriatic coast, and features several attractions. The most famous is the Fontana La Nave, a monumental fountain made in 1987 by Pietro Cascella, which depicts an ancient ship. Part of the promenade is Ponte del Mare, one of the longest pedestrian bridges in Europe, which crosses the Pescara river that cuts the city in two. Along the seafront south of the river is the Teatro Gabriele D’Annunzio, an open-air theater.

Basilica of Volto Santo
The Basilica of Volto Santo is a 17th-century sanctuary located near Manoppello and built to host the Manoppello Image (Volto Santo di Manoppello), a piece of cloth depicting the face of Jesus Christ and claimed to be the original Veil of Veronica, a Christian relic venerated since the Middle Ages. The decorated facade of the church was made in the 1960s.
