Fermo
Fermo is a city located among the hills of Marche. Founded in ancient times, it was a Roman town with the name Firmum Picenum. During the Middle Ages it was first the capital of the March of Fermo and then a free comune. The city was eventually taken by the Papal States and finally became part of Italy when the country was unified. In 2004, Fermo became the capital of its own province, after being separated from Ascoli Piceno.
Fermo Cathedral
Also known as: Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta)
The Fermo Cathedral (Duomo di Fermo) is the main church of Fermo, located on top of a hill at the center of the city. The current church was built starting in the 13th century over some previous structures and on the site of an ancient temple. The facade features a blend of Romanesque and Gothic elements while the Neoclassical interior houses various artworks. The crypt under the cathedral hosts some relics and a Paleochristian sarcophagus dating from around the 4th century. Some panoramic points around the church offer a great view of the surrounding region.

Palazzo dei Priori
Palazzo dei Priori is a historic palace in Fermo. The building has its origins in the Late Middle Ages and was expanded and reworked various times. The palace houses an art gallery, which includes a painting by Rubens, and an ancient library featuring the Sala del Mappamondo, a hall hosting an 18th-century globe.

Montefortino is a tiny town located at the foot of the Sibillini Mountains in the Province of Fermo.
Gole dell’Infernaccio
The Gole dell’Infernaccio are a series of natural gorges in the Sibillini Mountains near Montefortino. The area is known for its natural beauty and it is a popular hiking destination. A few interesting attractions are located among the gorges, such as a natural arch known as Temple of the Sibyl (Tempio della Sibilla).
