Valli Giudicarie and Alto Garda

The valleys of western Trentino are collectively known as Valli Giudicarie, and include the upper courses of the rivers Sarca and Chiese. The Sarca river continues south reaching Lake Garda. This part of Trentino located around the northern tip of Lake Garda is called Alto Garda. The area of the Valli Giudicarie and Alto Garda includes several popular ski resorts and some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the Alps.

Riva del Garda

Riva del Garda is a town in Trentino located at the northern end of Lake Garda. Due to its position, it has been an important naval base in the past, and now it is among the most important centers of commerce and tourism in the area.

Rocca of Riva del Garda

The Rocca is a medieval fortress in Riva del Garda located on a tiny island on the shores of Lake Garda. It was built in the 12th century and expanded various times, and now it hosts the Museo Alto Garda. This museum houses an art gallery, a collection of local archaeological findings, and an exhibit on the history of Riva del Garda and the surrounding area.

Arco

Arco is a town in Trentino located just north of Riva del Garda, at the foot of a hill. A regionally relevant center since the Middle Ages thanks to its castle, it is still a destination for some tourists that want to explore the surrounding mountains and Lake Garda.

Arco Castle

The ruins of the Arco Castle are located on a hill dominating over the town. The fortress was probably built around the 11th century and was at that time one of the most prominent castles in the area. Abandoned for a long time, some areas have been restored, bringing to light ancient some frescoes. A great view of Arco and the surrounding mountains can be enjoyed from the top of the hill where the ruins are located.

Ledro

Ledro is a municipality in Trentino that includes various villages located around Lago di Ledro. This lake is located in a valley west of Riva del Garda, and it is a popular tourist destination thanks to its wonderful environment.

Museo delle Palafitte del Lago di Ledro

During the Bronze Age, the people that inhabited the area of Lago di Ledro lived on pile dwellings on the lake. Now a museum hosts a collection of prehistoric archaeological findings and reconstructions of the ancient houses.

Fiavé

Fiavé is a village located in a valley in southern Trentino. It is known for being the site of important archaeological findings that show how the area was already inhabited during the Bronze Age.

Museo delle Palafitte di Fiavé

The Museo delle Palafitte is an archaeological museum in Fiavé. The museum is focused on the prehistoric pile dwellings that once occupied the area, and it houses a collection of interesting findings from the Archaeological Site of Fiavé, located a bit outside the town.

Stenico

Stenico is a village in Trentino located near the Sarca river at the southern end of the Brenta Dolomites. It is best known for its castle.

Stenico Castle

The Stenico Castle is a fortification built staring in the 12th century and located on a hill overlooking Stenico. It was for centuries the seat of local power, and now it has been turned into a museum.

Val Rendena

Val Rendena is a valley in Trentino crossed by the Sarca stream, and located between the mountains of Adamello to the west, and the Brenta group to the east. To the north, it splits in various lateral valleys, most notably Val Genova. Val Rendena is a popular destination for tourists, thanks to the gorgeous mountains and the numerous ski resorts. The most important town of Val Rendena is Pinzolo.

✪ Madonna di Campiglio

Madonna di Campiglio is one of the most popular and renowned ski resorts in Italy, located at the northern end of Val Rendena. The small village hosts a large amount of lifts and ski runs, and it has hosted numerous winter sports events. The town was founded in the 12th century, but it was just a small village until it started developing as a winter destination, turning into the main access point to the Brenta Dolomites in the 1950s.

Church of San Vigilio

The most important attraction of Pinzolo, the main town of Val Rendena, is the Church of San Vigilio. This medieval Romanesque church is surrounded by an ancient cemetery and features various historic frescos, both on the exterior and the interior.

Nardis Waterfalls

The Nardis Waterfalls are a series of beautiful waterfalls in the mountains of Trentino, located near Carisiolo in Val Genova, a lateral valley of Val Rendena. The Nardis Waterfalls are known for becoming completely frozen in winter.
