Professional wrestling is a unique blend of sports and theater, athleticism and entertainment, in which larger than life characters face each other in staged and dramatized matches, under the pretense of actual competition, creating a form of suspension of disbelief similar to that employed with works of fiction. While now professional wrestling is a global phenomenon, it has very humble origins, and it underwent several transformations and various periods of widespread popularity.
The history of professional wrestling is long, complex, and full of plot twists. In order to explain it to its fullest extent, I ended up writing an extremely long article, and I even cut a lot of other facts. I divided the entire history into six chapters. The first one will be published immediately, while the others will come out over the next few weeks.
Note: the articles include spoilers for events up to WrestleMania XL.
- Chapter 1: the origins
- Chapter 2: the territory era
- Chapter 3: the 1980s boom
- Chapter 4: the Monday Night War
- Chapter 5: WWE dominance
- Chapter 6: professional wrestling today
